Our African communities are vibrant, energetic, and full of dynamic individuals running different activities – but these activities are not always widely known because the people running them usually have few resources to promote them. In addition, the overriding focus of the media on negative portrayals of African-Australians has led to a situation in which very little is known about some of our most exciting events and inspirational people.
This page features examples of some of the most novel and inspiring community events, projects and people helping African families and communities to grow and thrive in Australia. We would be grateful if you could let us know of any positive initiatives or individuals who have personally inspired you on your Australian journey.
